Fabrizio Hochschild

Assistant Secretary-General for Strategic Coordination, United Nations

Mr. Fabrizio Hochschild of Chile is Assistant Secretary- General for Strategic Coordination in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Reporting to the Chef de Cabinet, Mr. Hochschild works closely with other members of the Executive Office team to support the Secretary-General in ensuring coherence across the political, peacekeeping, development, humanitarian, human rights and rule-of- law portfolios.Prior to his appointment as Assistant Secretary- General, Mr. Hochschild served as Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), from July 2016. He previously served as Deputy to the Secretary-General’s Special Adviser for the Summit on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants.

Between 2013 and 2016, he served as United Nations Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Colombia. He was the Director of the Field Personnel Division within the Department of Field Support in New York from 2010 to 2012, and Chief of Field Operations and Technical Cooperation in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva from 2005 until 2009.

Having begun his United Nations career in 1988 with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Sudan, Mr. Hochschild served in subsequent postings with UNHCR, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and in peacekeeping.

Mr. Hochschild’s other assignments included postings to Jerusalem (1990-1991), Bosnia and Herzegovina (1991-1992), Geneva (1993-1996), New York (1998-1999), Timor-Leste (2000),

Serbia (2001-2003) and the United Republic of Tanzania (2003-2005). He is a graduate of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Born in 1963, he is married and has three children.
